It has been said that, "None of our prayers will produce results unless we pray with a breakthrough mentality". And I think the key of a breakthrough type of prayer is praying with expectation.
If you pray just to be praying, not really knowing if your prayers will get answered, then you lose the motivation to pray for a particular situation.
And sometimes we know there is so much to pray for, that we get overwhelmed by the amount of things that we want God to do. And we put those things on the backburner sometimes.. Don’t want to face reality that the more we believe for, the more we have to pray for it. Some people pray and forget about it. That may be ok for them depending on their faith. But for me, everytime I go to God about a particular situation it helps my faith. When not seeing the manifestation of the promise right away, I can go to God and talk about it instead of going to friends to hear about it.
We need constant motivation to be sustained in prayer.
What motivates you to pray for someone?
Think of a situation that you know, if not for the prayers of others intercedeeding for you, you would not have received your breakthrough.
INTERCESSION- may be defined as holy, believing, perservering prayer
whereby someone pleads with God on behalf of another
or others who desperately need God’s intervention.
Daniel 9 - Daniel interceding for the people of Israel. He prayed earnestly
for the restoration of Jerusalem and for the entire nation.
And when God responded, he demonstrated His great mercy
and loving compassion as a God who fulfills His promises.
It is important to know that Christ prayed for his followers and all future believers.
(Luke 17:20) He set the example for interessory prayer for us.
Roman 8:34 Who is he that condemneth? It is Christ that died, yea rather , that is risen again, who is even at the right hand of God, who also maketh intercession for us.
Christ is our interceding High Priest. Heb 7:25 Wherefore he is able also to save them to the
uttermost that come unto God by him, seeing he
ever liveth to make intercession for them.
To the upmost Jesus saves.
Purpose of Intercessory prayer:
To turn aside His judgment: Gen.18:23-32, Num.14:13-19, Joel 2:17
Abraham, Moses, Joel
To restore His people: Neh 1, Nehemiah left Persia for Jerusalem to be governor of Judah. This was 13 yrs. after Ezra had arrived there. Nehemiah came with a commission from the king of Persia to rebuild the wall of Jerusalem and fortify the city. In spite of much opposition he did it in 52 days.
He was a man of courage, perservance and prayer.
He cooperated with Ezra to bring spiritual renewal to
To deliver individuals from danger: Acts 12:5, 12 Rom 15:31
To bless His people: Num. 6:24-26 Aaron bless the people of Israel
1 Ki. 18:41-45 Elijah prayed for rain (He put his
head between his knees).
Psa 122:6-8 Pray for the peace of Jerusalem.
For someone to be healed: James 5:14 Is any sick among you.
For effective Leaders: 2 Tim.1:3-7 An ex. of the head (Pastors) praying for the saints for gifts to be release. We all have gifts but need a boost. The gift Timonthy talks about is compared to a fire that he must stir or fan into flames. Can be done with the laying on of his hands.
Our gifts given to us by the Holy Spirit do not automatially remain strong. They must be fueled by the grace of God through our prayer, faith, obedience and diligence. We must also continue to use our gifts. If you don't use it, you can lose it!
To pray for those in authority: 1 Timothy 2:1-2 Pastors, Kings
I exhort therefore, that first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions and giving thanks, be made for all men; For kings, and for all that are in authority; that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty. (We all could use peace).
I started making a prayer list because honestly I do forget sometimes.
And I really don’t mean to. But at times we have so much to pray for. We should commit ourselves to make that list. When we pray for someone and bring them before God, it helps us to remember what we are believing for in the mist of so many other needs.
For salvation of others: Rom 10:1 For Isael to be saved.
For our Children: Isaiah 49:25 Very important scripture to
stand on. And build your faith for your children.
There is a reason it says even the captives of the mighty. (The great deceiver). I refuse to have my head in the sand to what he is trying to do to our youth. We must be diligent. Like exercise, it’s life long. A lifestyle.
The Holy Spirit plays a big role in Intercession!
Paul states, “We know not what we should pray for as we ought:
but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered” (Rom 8:26)
The Holy Spirit through the human spirit of the believer intercedes according to the will of God. Thus, Christ intercedes for the believer in
heaven. The Spirit intercedes within the believer on earth.
This can come out as tongues.
When we think of what God has done for us through our own prayer and also the intercession from others, we are motivated to intercede for others as well. Our hearts then yearns to do it. So we have to continue to look at God’s mercy in our lives, that he may grant His mercy also to our love ones and all persons that we pray for.
